Sierra Student Coalition Beyond Coal Campaign

The Sierra Student Coalition Beyond Coal Campaign is a national campaign working to move the United States entirely off coal. Many students across the country are working to close down coal plants and move their campuses off of coal.

Here in the Northwest we have already won campaigns to close down the Boardman Coal Plant (Oregon’s only coal plant) and Transalta (Washington’s only coal plant) in the near future. However, there are now proposals to continue to mine coal and ship it across the Northwest in trains to proposed coal export terminals along the coast. Some of those proposed terminals are at Cherry Point, Longview, and Coos Bay.
